12-Hours of Thunderhill

Going back to its roots, NASA NorCal presents the 12 Hours of Thunderhill. Twelve straight hours of racing guarantees you will get plenty of windshield time.

  • Assigned Paddock and Pit spaces, plenty of time to set up.
  • Practice and qualifying on Friday, September 18.
  • Racing on Saturday, September 19 from 7:30 AM to 7:30 PM.

The Team Racing Endurance Challenge is designed to make endurance racing fun, safe, and accessible — without compromising competition integrity. With flexible tire regulations, straightforward licensing, and minimal barriers for entry, TREC offers a gateway into motorsports for drivers seeking their first taste of endurance racing or seasoned racers looking for more track time.

Easy Licensing = Get On Track Quickly!

  • No previous competition license or racing experience required to participate — just a valid driver’s license and enthusiasm for racing.
  • Drivers new to TREC will need to submit a Provisional License application and complete NASA’s basic rules test. With safe driving and participation in three events, provisional status can be elevated to full TREC license standing.

Note: A TREC license is not needed if you have a NASA license for Instructing, Time Trial, or Competition.

  • Five time-bracketed classes. This means fair, fun racing, with no impound.
  • Daylight only. This means no expensive lighting required.
  • Strict NO CONTACT rules enforced.
  • FREE NASA membership and TREC license and crew credential charge.
  • Five-minute timed fuel stops (except unlimited class). Greatly reduces costs.
  • Standard fueling jugs (except Unlimited class) Keeps costs down.

  • Live stream TV show covering the race.
  • Prizes and awards for top finishers as well as special achievements such as oldest car, hard luck, best effort, etc.

CLASSES:

Five classes based on your declared lap times:
U. Lap times of no faster than 1:45
A. Lap times of no faster than 1:54
B. Lap times of no faster than 2:00
C. Lap times of no faster than 2:05
D. Lap times of no faster than 2:10

TIRES:

Tires are open. Use any tires including slicks. Only two tires per stop may be changed, except for Unlimited class.

MAKING THE GRID TV SHOW:

Making the Grid TV show is a behind the scenes show on the new automotive TV channel, PowerTube TV, available on various streaming services such as Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Android TV, etc. They will be focusing on several teams during the race and showing what it takes for a team to participate and finish the race.
